2.1 Water Conservation and Pollution Prevention
Examples of How we adhere to those goals at Watkins Nature Center
Watershed Education
Watershed Education is a major part of our programming here at Watkins Nature Center. Several of our programs include trips to the streams to sample stream life. In our partnership with the Schmidt Center, we engage in a release of the Sunfish from their Sunfish in the Classroom Program. To ensure the environment is proper for their fish, they test the water quality, including salinity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH.
Recycling, Pollution Prevention, and Waste Reduction with Students!
Watkins Nature Center has multiple ways students lead the way in reducing waste. Students volunteers often clean up waste off the trails and around the center as art of their duties. During crafts and programming, recycled materials are used s often as possible. Students recycle when cleaning up from programming.
